Wiseman & Gale
The Company’s reputation was first established by founders, George Wiseman, and Anne Gale. He migrated to Arizona from California, and she from New Mexico in 1959, with her husband Tom Gale. In 1965, they opened their Scottsdale design studio in a location just 100 yards from the current address. Anne Gale, who retired in 2002, is known as the “granddame” of Southwest luxury design. She helped to develop Wiseman & Gale’s eclectic trademark – a sophisticated mix of uncommon product and materials carefully assembled to create bold one-of-a-kind interiors.
Because of the successful partnership between George and Anne, and their prolific early business, they greatly influenced the taste, style, creative process, and practices of a generation of designers who worked for them. They laid the groundwork for what is a larger and even more dynamic current day Wiseman & Gale – a ‘family’ of 9 celebrated designers that have been touched by the firm’s rare history, and are impacting today’s most important residential projects in Arizona and around the Country. Ownership of the business changed in 2002, when Anne Gale retired and veteran designers Patty Burdick, Sue Calvin, and Jana Parker Lee stepped up and took the helm. At that time, Patty’s son Scott Burdick also joined the team as Managing Partner to run the day-to-day business and design showroom. Scott has an MBA from Thunderbird and a background in Finance and Management Consulting. Exciting and most recently, Holly Ogden became a Partner as Sue Calvin retired in early 2016. Holly began her career working at Wiseman & Gale as an assistant, just like Patty, Sue, and Jana. We think it’s a perfect example of our business model – a creative ‘virtuous’ cycle, with talent and experience passing from one generation to the next.
